TONIGHT: Thursday, April 25, at approx. 8:30pm:

Arlington County Board Will
Vote on Renaming Route 1

They will be taking public comment

As you probably know by now, I requested Attorney General Mark Herring issue an official opinion to clarify that Arlington has the ability to rename Jefferson Davis Highway by making a formal request to the Commonwealth Transportation Board, rather than relying on the state legislature to make the change. And Herring did so last month.

Arlington County Board Chair Christian Dorsey, to his credit, said they would act swiftly to make that request. This evening, the Arlington County Board will vote on a resolution to request the name be changed to Richmond Highway, as it is now known in Alexandria. The name change is not the first item on the board's agenda so even though the hearing begins at 6:45 pm, the Highway renaming is expected to come up around 8:30 or 9 pm.

The resolution will ask that the name change take effect on October 1 of this year. I think it should be sooner, if possible. The board will be taking public comment, and while they will likely vote unanimously in favor of the resolution, they should still hear from you, the public. So, if you agree that the time has come for us to stop honoring the President of the Confederacy, please show up and speak out.

The Board will meet in County Board chambers, located 2100 Clarendon Boulevard, Room 307.

But before you head to the Board meeting, make sure to stop by the...

The annual "Rally Against Rape," which I will have attended for six years now, is a fantastic opportunity for survivors of sexual assault to recount what happened to them in a safe environment that is actually as much therapy session as rally. I appreciate all the courageous survivors sharing their stories. Hearing them each year always reminds me what I'm fighting for and fuels my passion on this. Although still primarily women, I have been glad to see more men turn out each year, with some of them sharing their stories as well. Caroline Romano does a fantastic job in putting this together every year. So I hope to see you tonight.

And, as in years' past, I will be sharing my own family's story. If you're unaware of it, here's a Washington Post article on it and here is my detailed story of what happened that I told as a keynote speaker at the World Bank.

Bringing the Truth to FOX News

Click the image above to see my efforts to make sure FOX News viewers hear
at least a modicum of truth when they watch Laura Ingraham's show.

I wish it weren't necessary, but I think it's important to reach out to the (admittedly small) percentage of FOX News viewers open to hearing the truth. As you can see in the clip, Ms. Ingraham and fellow guest Matt Schlapp, President of the American Conservative Union (and former political director for President George W. Bush), were not too interested in America seeing, much less following, the law requiring the President to disclose his tax returns upon Congressional demand.

Please join us this Sunday!

Attention Drivers:

Major Weekend I-395 Lane
Closures Starting

Friday, April 26th

No photo description available.

Drivers, you may expect lane closures on the I-395 general purpose lanes beginning this weekend (April 26-28) and continuing for at least four consecutive weekends through the end of May or possibly early June, depending on the weather. The weekend closures, which will occur from Friday nights until very early Monday mornings, are needed for crews to safely rehabilitate five bridges along I-395 between the Springfield interchange and the District of Columbia.

While an inconvenience, it is good thing that we are improving this important highway!

Weekly updates with specific closure information will be available at: 395ExpressLanes.com.
